Dear Gotz,
=20
Hey ... I'm a dryball too ... having once described a new goby and a freshwa=
ter polychaete.=20
For images designed to help colleagues understand correct colouration there=20=
is no charge. Only an acknowledgement. For photos used in public displays I=20=
would need a small fee ... which is always entirely negotiable!=20
=20
And if it turns out your institution is broke ... well that's negotiable too=
It might cost a few beers if I ever visit Bremen.
=20
Let me know what you are interested in.
=20
I can upload high res copies to my website for you to download.

Dear Sir,

"Once in a while one comes on the other kind=E2=80=94what used in the univer=
sity to be called a =E2=80=9Cdry-ball=E2=80=9D=E2=80=94but such men are not=20=
really biologists. They are the embalmers of the field, the picklers who see=
only the preserved form of life without any of its principle. Out of their=20=
own crusted minds they create a world wrinkled with formaldehyde"

I feel, you are a bit hard with my colleagues 100 years ago. Anyhow, we have=
the animals in formaldehyde now and are rather happy with it. Many universi=
ties destroyed their collections 30 years ago as outdated - and are becoming=
sorry now. And we, the Ueberseemuseum Bremen, Germany, are going to display=
some hundreds of them within our new public storage opening in summer.
But ok, you are right: for the scientists the wet expoants are totally alrig=
ht, for the public rather untempting since decolored. So we hunt for images,=
giving the true colors and at least a bit of real life. We want to use then=
jointly with the images of the wet exponats in our page, the terminals at t=
he halls and directly on the exponats in the PDA info system. If ever possib=
le we will try to add sound as well. By hunting we hit on your splendid page=

I should like to ask you, if and under which conditions we might be allowed=20=
to use some of your images. Correct quotation and a link are a standard for=20=
us, indeed.

Thanks for your patience!

Yours sincerely

Dr. G=C3=B6tz Mackensen
