Diversity is THE central theme of the Übersee-Museum: the diversity of life, of coexistence, and of perspectives on our world. To do our part in preserving this diversity, we collect and preserve our natural and cultural heritage for the future. Our work in research, exhibitions, and education is grounded in our collections. That is why we focus on globally relevant contemporary issues, questions about non-European natural environments and cultures, and Bremen’s economic context and trade relations.
We look to the future without losing sight of our past. That is why we take a critical look at the history and origins of our collections. Cooperation and exchange with people from the communities from which our collections originate are particularly important to us. Our work is characterized by interdisciplinarity, collaboration, and curiosity about the world. We find this enriching and aim to inspire our visitors – both in person and online – with our curiosity and enthusiasm for the world’s diversity, making the Übersee-Museum an inspiring and fascinating place for encounters and social exchange, as well as an integral part of Bremen’s educational landscape.
