Wiebke Ahrndt (born 1963) studied ethnology and ancient American studies in Göttingen and Bonn. Various study and research stays in Los Angeles and Mexico. In 1996, she earned her Ph.D. in Ancient American Studies. From late 1999 to early 2002, she served as head of the Americas Department at the Museum der Kulturen in Basel. Since March 2002, she has been Director of the Übersee-Museum in Bremen. In October 2006, she was appointed honorary professor in the Department of Cultural Studies at the University of Bremen. From 2011 to 2018, she served as Vice President of the German Museum Association, and has been its President since May 2022.

Safua Akeli (born 1981) studied history in Australia and New Zealand. From 2020 to 2025, she served as head of the Department of New Zealand History and Pacific Cultures at Te Papa Museum. From 2018 to 2020, she served as director of the Center for Samoan Studies at the National University of Samoa. She was an associate professor of history at the National University of Samoa (2017–20). In 2017, she earned her Ph.D. in history from the University of Queensland. From 2008 to 2013, she was Curator of Pacific Cultures at Te Papa Museum. Since 2021, she has been President of the Pacific History Association. Since 2025, she has been Head of the Department of Ethnology and Curator of the Oceania Collection.

Jan Christoph Greim (born 1982) studied Classical Archaeology and History at Ruhr University Bochum. He earned his Ph.D. in the History of Technology in 2018. From 2011 to 2013, he was a research assistant at the German Maritime Museum in Bremerhaven. In 2012, he served as project manager at the Talentakademie Ruhr and as a lecturer at the University of Osnabrück. From early 2014 to early 2016, he completed a research internship and subsequently served as project manager (2016–2017) at the Focke Museum, the State Museum of Art and Cultural History of Bremen. From July 2017 to February 2020, he served as director of the Moorseer Mühle Museum in Nordenham. Since March 2020, he has been head of the Department of Trade History and Provenance Research at the Übersee-Museum in Bremen.

Michaela Grein (born 1980) studied geosciences in Tübingen. From 2006 to 2007, 2009 to 2012, and 2014 to 2017, she was a research assistant at the University of Tübingen, the State Museum of Natural History in Stuttgart, and the National Museum in Prague. From 2007 to 2009, she was a doctoral fellow of the Baden-Württemberg State Graduate Fellowship Program (LGF). From 2012 to 2014, she was a research trainee at the Übersee-Museum in Bremen. Since 2017, she has been the curator of botany at the Übersee-Museum in Bremen.

Stefan Loges (born 1965) studied history, European ethnology, and political science in Münster and Newcastle upon Tyne. From 1992 to 2006, he served as a press officer, brand manager, and head of product marketing at Siemens in Hanover and Munich. From 2007 to 2012, he served as Head of Marketing and Product Management at cookware manufacturer Fissler, followed by roles as Head of Marketing at MeisterSinger Watches and at “Kleine Wolke.” Since December 2024, he has been Head of PR and Marketing at the Übersee-Museum.

Volker Lohrmann (born 1981) studied biology in Mainz and Berlin. From 2006 to 2007, he was a research fellow at the State Museum of Natural History in Karlsruhe. From 2007 to 2010, he was a doctoral fellow of the German National Academic Foundation. Research and fieldwork stays in Arizona, Florida, and London, among other places. From 2011 to 2014, he was a research associate at the University of Potsdam, the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin, and the Max Planck Institute in Bremen. 2012–2014: Member of the Taxonomy Working Group at the Leopoldina. Since 2013: Curator of Entomology at the Übersee-Museum in Bremen.

Diana Michler-Kozma (born 1988) studied biology at the University of Duisburg-Essen from 2012 to 2017, specializing in limnology and toxicology. From 2015 to 2016, she completed a research fellowship at the Coastal Marine Field Station in Tauranga, New Zealand. From 2018 to 2022, she completed her Ph.D. at the Institute for Landscape Ecology at the University of Münster on the topic “Fate and Effects of Plastic Pollution in Calm Inland Waters.” Since March 2022, research assistant in natural history at the Übersee-Museum in Bremen.

Here, employed at the Senator for Finances (1995 – 2002) as well as the Bremer Investitions-Gesellschaft mbH (2003 – 2008), with the topic of decentralised controlling and as a research assistant in the investigative committee Construction and Real Estate (2002 – 2003). Managing director of the Übersee-Museums Bremen since February 2008.

Renate Noda (born 1965) studied Sinology in Bonn, study visit in Jinan, Shandong province, People’s Republic of China 1991, master’s degree in the field of Sinology. Long-term residence in Kumamoto, Japan and Hong Kong. Study toward a dissertation in Japanology in Vienna, 2010 doctorate. 2004-2010, curator for Eastern Asia at the Museum for Ethnology in Vienna. Between 2002 and 2010, teaching assignments in the Sinology and Japanology departments at the University of Vienna. Since 2010, Head of the Department of Ethnology at the Übersee-Museum Bremen. Board member of the German-Japanese Society in Bremen from 2011 to 2016.

Silke Seybold (born 1969) studied ethnology (with a focus on Africa), geography, and education in Mainz and London. In 1995, she conducted field research in Ethiopia. Beginning in 1999, she developed and implemented the project to establish the Historical Image Archive at the Übersee-Museum in Bremen. Since 2003, she has served as curator for African studies at the Übersee-Museum in Bremen. She has also served as project director for various exhibition projects and has repeatedly held positions as a lecturer at the University of Bremen.

Since 1996, self-employed as biologist in the field of marine faunistics. From 1998 to 2011, collaboration at the Übersee-Museum in a number of different exhibition projects. Since February 2012, head of the department of natural history at the Übersee-Museum. Since 2013, vice chairman of the Naturwissenschaftlichen Vereins Bremen (Natural History Society of Bremen).

Bettina von Briskorn (born 1966) studied history and cultural studies at the University of Bremen. Received her Magistra Artium degree in 1995. From 1996 to 1998 and from 2000 to 2002, she served as a research assistant at the Übersee-Museum. From 2006 to 2007, she was an assistant to the director at the Bremer Geschichtenhaus in the Schnoor. Since 1999, she has worked as a freelancer in museum education and adult education. Since 2015, she has been a research associate in the Provenance Research Department at the Übersee-Museum. She is currently leading the project “Ethnographic Collecting During the German Colonial Era in ‘Neumecklenburg’ – a collaborative research project with New Ireland, Papua New Guinea,” which is funded by the German Center for Lost Cultural Property.

Renate Noda (born 1965) studied Sinology in Bonn, study visit in Jinan, Shandong province, People’s Republic of China 1991, master’s degree in the field of Sinology. Long-term residence in Kumamoto, Japan and Hong Kong. Study toward a dissertation in Japanology in Vienna, 2010 doctorate. 2004-2010, curator for Eastern Asia at the Museum for Ethnology in Vienna. Between 2002 and 2010, teaching assignments in the Sinology and Japanology departments at the University of Vienna. Since 2010, Head of the Department of Ethnology at the Übersee-Museum Bremen. Board member of the German-Japanese Society in Bremen from 2011 to 2016.

Silke Seybold (born 1969) studied ethnology (with a focus on Africa), geography, and education in Mainz and London. In 1995, she conducted field research in Ethiopia. Beginning in 1999, she developed and implemented the project to establish the Historical Image Archive at the Übersee-Museum in Bremen. Since 2003, she has served as curator for African studies at the Übersee-Museum in Bremen. She has also served as project director for various exhibition projects and has repeatedly held positions as a lecturer at the University of Bremen.

Safua Akeli (born 1981) studied history in Australia and New Zealand. From 2020 to 2025, she served as head of the Department of New Zealand History and Pacific Cultures at Te Papa Museum. From 2018 to 2020, she served as director of the Center for Samoan Studies at the National University of Samoa. She was an associate professor of history at the National University of Samoa (2017–20). In 2017, she earned her Ph.D. in history from the University of Queensland. From 2008 to 2013, she was Curator of Pacific Cultures at Te Papa Museum. Since 2021, she has been President of the Pacific History Association. Since 2025, she has been Head of the Department of Ethnology and Curator of the Oceania Collection.

Michael Stiller (born 1961) studied biology in Marburg. From 1990 to 1994, research assistant at the Alfred Wegener Institute for polar and marine research in Bremerhaven. 1995, doctorate at the University of Bremen in biology. Since 1996, self-employed as biologist in the field of marine faunistics. From 1998 to 2011, collaboration at the Übersee-Museum in a number of different exhibition projects. Since February 2012, head of the department of natural history at the Übersee-Museum. Since 2013, vice chairman of the Naturwissenschaftlichen Vereins Bremen (Natural History Society of Bremen).

Michaela Grein (born 1980) studied geosciences in Tübingen. From 2006 to 2007, 2009 to 2012, and 2014 to 2017, she was a research assistant at the University of Tübingen, the State Museum of Natural History in Stuttgart, and the National Museum in Prague. From 2007 to 2009, she was a doctoral fellow of the Baden-Württemberg State Graduate Fellowship Program (LGF). From 2012 to 2014, she was a research trainee at the Übersee-Museum in Bremen. Since 2017, she has been the curator of botany at the Übersee-Museum in Bremen.

Volker Lohrmann (born 1981) studied biology in Mainz and Berlin. From 2006 to 2007, he was a research fellow at the State Museum of Natural History in Karlsruhe. From 2007 to 2010, he was a doctoral fellow of the German National Academic Foundation. Research and fieldwork stays in Arizona, Florida, and London, among other places. From 2011 to 2014, he was a research associate at the University of Potsdam, the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin, and the Max Planck Institute in Bremen. 2012–2014: Member of the Taxonomy Working Group at the Leopoldina. Since 2013: Curator of Entomology at the Übersee-Museum in Bremen.

Diana Michler-Kozma (born 1988) studied biology at the University of Duisburg-Essen from 2012 to 2017, specializing in limnology and toxicology. From 2015 to 2016, she completed a research fellowship at the Coastal Marine Field Station in Tauranga, New Zealand. From 2018 to 2022, she completed her Ph.D. at the Institute for Landscape Ecology at the University of Münster on the topic “Fate and Effects of Plastic Pollution in Calm Inland Waters.” Since March 2022, research assistant in natural history at the Übersee-Museum in Bremen.

Stefan Loges (born 1965) studied history, European ethnology, and political science in Münster and Newcastle upon Tyne. From 1992 to 2006, he served as a press officer, brand manager, and head of product marketing at Siemens in Hanover and Munich. From 2007 to 2012, he served as Head of Marketing and Product Management at cookware manufacturer Fissler, followed by roles as Head of Marketing at MeisterSinger Watches and at “Kleine Wolke.” Since December 2024, he has been Head of PR and Marketing at the Übersee-Museum.

In 2012, he served as project manager at the Talentakademie Ruhr and as a lecturer at the University of Osnabrück. From early 2014 to early 2016, he completed a research internship and subsequently served as project manager (2016–2017) at the Focke Museum, the State Museum of Art and Cultural History of Bremen. From July 2017 to February 2020, he served as director of the Moorseer Mühle Museum in Nordenham. Since March 2020, he has been head of the Department of Trade History and Provenance Research at the Übersee-Museum in Bremen.

Bettina von Briskorn (born 1966) studied history and cultural studies at the University of Bremen. Received her Magistra Artium degree in 1995. From 1996 to 1998 and from 2000 to 2002, she served as a research assistant at the Übersee-Museum. From 2006 to 2007, she was an assistant to the director at the Bremer Geschichtenhaus in the Schnoor. Since 1999, she has worked as a freelancer in museum education and adult education. Since 2015, she has been a research associate in the Provenance Research Department at the Übersee-Museum. She is currently leading the project “Ethnographic Collecting During the German Colonial Era in ‘Neumecklenburg’ – a collaborative research project with New Ireland, Papua New Guinea,” which is funded by the German Center for Lost Cultural Property.
