In cooperation with the Sealaska Heritage Institute, the Übersee-Museum presents the fascinating culture of the Tlingit from Southeast Alaska in this cabinet exhibition. The focus is on the Bremen Tlingit collection, one of the oldest in the museum.
From conversations about meaning and stories behind museum collections to original works of art – this online platform brings these and other connections to life.

Buddhism is one of the great religious traditions of mankind. But where are the beginnings of Buddhism? How did it spread throughout the world? The new large special exhibition explores the history, the spread and the cultural diversity of this world religion.

As part of the neighborhood project “To good neighbourhood” residents of the Bahnhofsvorstadt receive free admission and are invited to work with the museum to design new formats for the further development of the neighborhood.
The reconstruction works for the new Oceania exhibition have started. Therefore, necessary demolition work will take place from November 22 to 24, which can be very noisy. We are thus waiving museum admission for all visitors from November 22 to 24. You will find everything about the reconstruction and the new exhibition on our website soon!
Special exhibition
It is a true multi-talent: from jeans to banknotes, it is almost unthinkable to imagine our everyday life without cotton. “100% cotton” takes a look at the cultural stories that this plant has been writing for 5,000 years and also ventures a glimpse into the future.
From September 2, the traveling exhibition “Multifaceted Insects – Diversity I Endangerment I Protection” awakens fascination for insects, educates about their population decline and reports on possible solutions.
