Children & Families

Free time activities for and with children? The Übersee-Museum has a lot to offer! The events of the house create numerous opportunities to go on a journey of discovery, to experience new things and to become active together. The starting point are the exhibitions of the house. Whether Asia, Oceania or Africa – they not only shrink long distances to excursion size, but also provide unique insights into the nature and culture of other countries, combining entertainment and knowledge in a pleasant way.

Whether it’s lectures for children or birthday parties, vacation programs or family events, the Maki children’s club or museum rallies – the museum’s event formats are matched to different age groups and visiting situations. This makes a visit to the museum an experience for the whole family! By the way: the convenient location of the house directly at Bremen’s central station allows a comfortable arrival by public transport. Gastronomy and the museum shop offer the opportunity to relax or to “take home” the visit at the museum.

The upcycling reef

Bringing the endangered and fragile beauty of maritime ecosystems to Bremen: (hand)working together to create a colorful and magnificent coral reef! The special thing about this participatory artwork is that we want to create something new from already used materials or "not-in-use" objects.

Craft instructions from recycled materials

Take a piece of the Übersee-Museum home with you! The Maki Club shows you how to get creative with recycled materials. A buzzing sling bee that sounds like a whole swarm of bees, a colorful guitar made from a milk carton, or a rainmaker made from a kitchen towel roll and rice.
