The Übersee-Museum in Bremen is currently redesigning its permanent exhibition on Oceania. The importance of cultural traditions of the Pacific islanders in today’s life plays a major role in the new exhibition. As part of this, we have designed a video installation in which Pacific Islanders talk about how they express identity through e.g. clothing and adornments.
For the installation we are looking for Pacific Islanders in Germany or other parts of Europe who enjoy sharing their stories with us and thus would like to participate in our exhibition project.
Sounds appealing to you?
Great, we would be happy if you could talk to us in front of the camera about topics like traditional and modern clothing, tattoos, jewellery, your favourite sport or a cultural practice that is connected to your community.
When and where?
The filming will take place on March 3 and 4 at the Übersee-Museum in Bremen, Germany, so you should be available on one of those days. Travel expenses within Germany/Europe will be covered, and in addition, there will be food and drinks, as well as a free guided tour by our Samoan colleagues, Mitiana Arbon and Aiga Nialuga.
If our invitation is not convenient for you in terms of time, geography or other reasons, please feel free to forward this text to your relatives and friends who may know someone who is currently in Germany/Europe and might be interested. We are looking for people from as many Pacific States as possible.
If you are interested, please get back to us until 27 January 2023 via e-mail l.korge@uebersee-museum.de
